How Does VPN Work?

VPN

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is a service which allows you to access the web safely and securely by routing your connection using a server and then hiding up your online actions.

How Does VPN Work?

For the user, here’s how a VPN works:

  • You start off the VPN software from your VPN service. This software encrypts the data, even way before your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or coffee shot wifi provider gets to see it.
  • That data then goes to the VPN and from the VPN server, it goes to your online destination.
  • That online destination sees your data as it’s coming from the VPN location and server instead of your computer and location as it normally would.

Benefits of Using VPN

  • No one can very easily identify you or your computer as the originator of the source of data and neither can they determine what is it that you are doing (which websites you are visiting, etc).
  • Your data remains encrypted so that even if anyone takes a look at what you are doing or sending them what they will see is encrypted information and now the raw data.

Legal Constraints To Keep In Mind

All reputed VPN companies try to do all that they can protect your privacy and data along with your ensuring your overall security in the web. But it should be kept in mind that they are still affected by the law of the jurisdiction they are functioning from and that can affect their service. So even if they don’t want to, they might have to share records of your activity with the authorities if the law demands so.

But you should still keep in mind that not each and every VPN will protect you in the same way so you will have to make an active and wise choice.
